[3.0] "The match starts out well and shows a lot of promise. You get some great stuff like Samu appearing to almost kill himself on a neck hang spot, and a great monster run from Diesel, kind of the prototype for something like Kane in 2001 or Lesnar in 2020. He also murders Virgil with some absolutely insane elbows. After the first third though, it's all downhill and doesn't pick up again until the final four. So many booking decisions just leave me scratching my head. Why are Owen Hart and Randy Savage in there for such a short period of time, while guys like Men On A Mission and Tatanka feel like they're in there forever? Bret is amazing and completely steals the show while he's in there and is the only genuine saving grace of everything in the second two thirds of the match. Like even during the celebration at the end he's still selling his leg. His leg selling is so damn good, it's incredible. So yeah, maybe just over 15 minutes of this 55 minute match were good, and the weirdly dead crowd for most of its duration doesn't help (though to be fair it is a Rumble massively lacking star power). Not ideal!"

[6.0] "A mediocre tournament for the most part, filled with HOT overbookings which were for the most part terrible. There were rarely good matches in the first two rounds, and the left side of the bracket was awful. But things picked up after the quarter finals with two good semi final matches and an amazing final. Yota Tsuji was the MVP of the tournament as he had the 3 best matches of the whole thing ( against Cobb, Phantasmo and Goto). Overal a lackluster tournament carried by the last two shows."

[5.0] "Now that the tour is over, i have to say that the New Japan Cup as a whole this year was pretty lackluster, partially due to a lot of the recent major departures, but more caused by the booking than anything else. A few dud tournament matches, lots of mediocre tournament matches, and some baffling early eliminations. It wasn't a total dud however as there were still some really good matches, but it was overall a disappointing year for the New Japan Cup."

[8.0] "That was a very good tournament that gave some good opportunities to fresher talents, didn't use any big match-ups but still had a lot of very good matches. The only mistake being Jack Perry going this far in the tournament as he was clearly not ready, not over enough to be in the quarter finals. It felt very forced. Other than that, the young talents shined and showed that the future is bright. Some of the matches didn't look great on paper but turned out to be quite good, they will probably never get the credit they deserve because some of those matches are from wrestlers that the "fans" blindly hate but they did good and the crowds had some fun. The finals was a little surprising as Goto was probably not supposed to be there but they made it work perfectly, maybe better than the original plan. Tsuji had a great path to the victory by beating veterans in Cobb and ELP, one of his big rivals in Ren Narita, the biggest heel in New Japan in EVIL and finally he beat Mr. New Japan Cup who had an overall easier path but beat SANADA the previous world champion, a guy that Tsuji has never beaten so it's not like Goto came into this final looking weak, he could absolutely win, but Tsuji showed that it's time to move on to the next generation and he'll lead that one."

[7.0] "I liked this year's Triangle Derby, even though Rossy's booking marred it. The big problem for a lot of folks last year, which is why it got panned by so many, was that it dragged on too long and people were sick of it. The final show last year did well because the card was stacked with title matches, not because of the derby match. This year's show found the sweet spot. Do the tournament, make it a 1 day thing, do it on a PPV and cap it off in a title match like last year. That way, the people who liked the derby still get something, and the naysayers only have to deal with it for a day, which means they won't complain anymore. The booking of the tournament was wacky because of Rossy's cringe, notorious draws/double countouts, but it gave the wrestlers energy to get through it and produce a great final match. If they do this next year, maybe make it like this year's Cinderella Tournament. Do rounds 1 and 2 on one show, quarterfinals on a korakuen or something and the semifnals/final on the next show. Either way, while I liked last year's tournament, I can't complain about this year's much now that Rossy finally got booted and we won't have to deal with his booking in Stardom anymore."

[3.0] "In defense of the talent involved, the worst part of this were the rules of the tournament, because it limitated a lot what they could do and had no much sense. The matches were repetitive and not really interesting. My favourite was Devon Storm against Sandman. The rest of them had the same structure, weapon shots leading into a table bump. Sandman won the Hard Ten after throwing New Jack off a balcony in to a table on the floor. At least it was far better than the Anarchy Alliance."

Dean should've won but whatever I guess HHH was A fine winner. Roman's performance though is.. its fine I guess he was down for most the time he was in."

[5.0] "This really felt like meh. The blocks were looking interesting and all the interest went to drain when the final four were revealed. Well there is no longer a fairytale story, or some interesting choice. This all predictable teams. And the finals made me even more mad. Champ vs champ where anyone wins would anyways get the title shot and it ahd happen, the reigning IWGP tag champ called our the reigning NJPW strong openweight tag champ on a rematch in the Tokyo dome for a "winners takes all" affair, the strong title and the tag titles has been on hot potatoes since April of last year and the fact they are being defended along side is giving me even more headache. And the fact that the champ are winning a tournament to determine who will face the champion are creating more questionable decision, it's just like WWE champ wins a royal rumble which is used to determine the challenger for maina. GEDO is seriously scratch everyone's head with this one. No wonder why the tag tournament are losing their value"

Some matches as well could've been much better. I personally wouldn't skip most of these matches at all, but the ones that do feel really skippable drag the tournament's rating down, but overall it is a really a strong showing for everyone, and shows the strength of the J-Cup."

[4.0] "This tournament had no point, as Triple X lost the championship on a horrible double pin situation that had no much sense. Most part of the matches were boring, specially the ones involving the Harris Brothers. The best part of the tournament was the final between AMW and Triple X. It was a very good match, with good storytelling and a great work by the heels working on Harris and drawing heat for a hot tag. I like it a lot, but the rest of the tournament was pretty bad."

[2.0] "This couldn't be good. Having a tag tournement in which most part of the teams are composed by people who hate each other couldn't go right. At least there's some good stuff on it, mostly the two first Chris Harris matches. The first, alongside James Storm as AMW, against AJ and D-Lo was really good. The other one is Harris & Sabin vs Jerry Lynn and Justin Credible. This was my favourite match, great action and set a rivalry between the two former ECW champions which should be fun. The rest of the tournament was bad. First, the Harris brothers doing some racist stuff, because they didn't want to tag with "that kind", referring to Ron Killings. Then the Traci and David Young team getting to the finals was weird as that match was horrible. I don't know what's the point of this tournament, but at least the right team won. Another match between AMW and Triple X should be good."

Him vs Blake Christian in the finals was a good semi main event & the rest of the tournament had moments, especially funny ones with Crazy Steve and young Tre Lamar. Crazy that this was a pandemic era matchup. Good interviews and the x division is always a massive part of TNA Wrestling."

The second half of this tournament was better than the mediocre or sometimes flat out boring first half that weighs down the great 2nd half of this tournament. Chono getting his 2nd G1 Climax win and the NWA World Title felt important and overall memorable. [***1/4]"

Their isn't anything remotely wrong with this tournament as it never really hits lows and usually stays around the same area. My favorite matches from this G1 Climax is Mutoh vs. Bigelow, Chono vs. Hashimoto, Chono vs. Hashimoto & the final between Masahiro Chono & Keiji Mutoh which felt really damn good to see those two in the final, It felt very deserving of that placement. [8.0] "This tournament marked the beginning of a rather long period of time where 205 Live was a better weekly television show than Raw or Smackdown. After months of Enzo, this is exactly what the brand needed: Just 16 really fucking good wrestlers having a single-elimination tournament culminating at Wrestlemania (preshow). This was also the big breakout moment for Buddy Murphy/Mathews, and he absolutely made the most of his opportunity. Every match is worth going back and watching. I particularly recommend Strong vs. Alexander. Damn, I miss 205 Live."

But what did this years tournament give other than a shitty unequal structure, four shitty matches and a PPV that was frankly weak even for secondary? It's only because of the decent first match from Queen's Quest that I'm giving it a 3."

With twice as many wrestlers it seems exciting but slowly you realize it's too much and hard to keep track of who is getting thrown out until half the numbers are through. The finals were pretty exciting but then Hogan did his thing and it ends in controversy literally ruining the whole night."

[8.0] "The tournament itself was, for the most part, excellent. However, a couple of major criticisms: 1. Having THREE such obvious pin eaters, with one singular upset win, was disappointing. 2. Adding another midcard belt, wrapped up with two other mediocre belts, was a terrible idea and confused the identity of the Continental Championship right off the bat. The tournament should be structured upon the prestige of winning, NOT around winning a belt, with perhaps some type of yearly perk or title shot for the winner."

The structure of the tournament was really strange, and it is still not explained why teams from one block had to fight teams from another block and then meet them in the semi-finals. The booking should have been a bit more balanced though as it seemed there was about 10 heels and two baby faces in the tournament which led to a number of heel vs heel clashes, sometimes two a show, and I found this very confusing."

[8.0] "It's not the greatest Royal Rumble match ever as it does have its problems (such as missed eliminations that weren't caught on camera, the awkward handwave rule following Macho Man's self elimination, and Monsoon's being 4 minutes fast on the time Flair had been in the ring for instance) but it's REALLY good. The best Rumble matches all have a solid through line, a story that goes through the entire match, and this one is no exception. Flair's performance is great, but it wouldn't be half as good without Heenan being incredible on commentary."

[10.0] "The best tournament in North America pro wrestling's history. Aew's version of the G1 was a total hit: there were lots of great wrestlers and therefore lots of high profile match-ups. The quality of the matches was amazing, especially in the Blue League. The storytelling was also top notch with Eddie Kingston's comeback and Daniel Garcaia's redemption arc being two of the best stories of the year. The best match, for me, was Danielson vs. Kingston in the semifinal. And the MVP of the tournament was Bryan Danielson. The final saw Eddie Kingston became a triple crown champion just like all of his heroes in what was the best possible. The tournament also gave people like Brody King or Mark Briscoe the chance to let all of their talent shine bright. Can't wait for the tournament to comeback next year."

[9.0] "I have always dreamed of a G1-style tournament made on the big stage in America. My biggest fear was, that with all of the matches being performed on TV, their quality would be average as a result, but I was wrong. Every single wrestler in the tournament for their every single match wrestled their best. Besides maybe one match (RUSH vs Lethal), every bout was at least good, with many being amazing, not only in terms of pure wrestling, but also bringing some story to their characters. Gold League Block was full with star power and it resulted in three of the wrestlers having a tiebreaker for the semi-finale, effectively making all three of them coming out looking strong: White was receiving his much needed victories after a lackluster match vs MJF and Swerve became even more over. Blue League block was filled with amazing in-ring performers, collecting a lot of wrestlers who are generally considered underrated by a lot of people and giving them a platform to shine. While it happened to be one of the last things for Andrade in the company, he had one of the best runs in AEW he had this far. Brodie King felt like a monster and was looking to dominate the group at the start. Garcia played an amazing underdog story. One of the downsides of the tournament was probably the predictability of the winner. While at the start, I didn't expect them to give Eddie the win, as I thought It would be too obvious, it turned out to work in the end. I still, personally, would've loved to see White vs Danielson in the finale, but I understand why not, as Danielson needed time to prepare for match vs Okada at WK and Eddie/Mox already had a good history behind them. In the end, with Eddie becoming the "First Modern Triple Crown Champion of the US", I can say the tournament was a huge success. It elevated people, gave us good in-ring stories and of course, great wrestling. I hope this will continue on in terms of quality next year, and also improve on some things, like having a more grand presentation for a finale."

[9.0] "It was a very good tournament. The first round was mediocre, because I only liked one match. But the finals were incredible. I like how they mixed a lot of storylines in the tournament, specially the Hate Triangle of Angelico, Son of Havoc and Ivelisse, that were forced to form an unlikely alliance for the tournament. Also, we see the oficial debut of The Mack and Killshot, which is great. The final was a three way trios match with some nice wrestling and incredible action by all the wrestlers involved. Finally, when it seemes that the Unlikey Alliance have won the championships after a hard battle and overcome all their problemes, Dario Cueto introduced The Crew as a last match. The heels beat the underdogs, but after a great spot by Angelico, his team finally beat The Crew and won the championships. It was a great way to conclude their storyline and they made two great performances. I really enjoyed the finals, it was one of my favourite things LU have done so far."
