"I really do believe that you screwed you"

Vince McMahon: "First thing I'd like to say to each and every one of you here as well as all over the world is Happy New Year. And the second thing that I'd like to be able to say is there's really no reason to call Bret Hart out here tonight. After all I think that Bret and Shawn pretty much buried the hatchet. They put all this Montreal stuff behind us and brought closure to it. So therefore I feel the same way. The Montreal Incident is basically over. Nonetheless I'd like to thank Bret Hart. I'd like to thank him for being our Guest Host here tonight. And speaking of Guest Host. Next week our Guest Host is 'Iron' Mike Tyson! 'Iron' Mike Tyson, at one time considered, no question, the baddest man on the planet.

[großer Jubel brandet auf und man erblickt Bret Hart auf der Entrance Stage. Der Hitman schreitet in den Ring, zieht seine Lederjacke aus und konfrontiert Mr. McMahon]

I think I know what you're thinking. I think I know what these people would like to see. They wanna see you apply the Sharpshooter. Bret, I'm asking you to be the better man tonight. And I really wanna hear what you have to say. I don't want to provoke you. That's not what I wanna do. But I would like, in the interest of being honest, as you were earlier, I would like to get a few things off my chest. And I believe that, I really do believe that you screwed you. I'll never forget, I'll never forget you spitting in my face, literally. I'll never forget you, in the locker room after the event was over, I never forget you sucker-punching me. I'll never forget you disrespecting me the night that you were inducted into the Hall Of Fame.

I mean, you've slandered me and trashed me in just about every publication there is, for so many years, Bret. And again, I'm not trying to provoke you, I just wanna be honest with you. And I do wanna hear what you have to say to me. I'm hoping, Bret, that you start with two words. I'm hoping that you simply say to me 'I'm sorry'. Again, I'm not trying to provoke you."

Bret Hart: "I could think of a lot of words to say to you, but the two words that you're thinking of are a lot different than the two words that I'm thinking of. I came here tonight to bury the hatchet and find closure to this whole thing that ever happened. And I feel that I'm half way there right now. And it feels as the greatest feeling in the world for me to get all that weight off my back after twelve years. And I feel like I'm half way there. I got what I wanted from Shawn. And you know it and I want it. That you and I want the same thing as bad. You know, we wanna get things right. This is your chance to make truce, make peace with me and find closure. And get this all over with. You know that you want this as bad as I do."

McMahon: "Again, I'll be honest. I tell you what I thought I wanted. What I thought I wanted was to come out here and to kick you in the guts. That's really what I thought, OK? I know, stupid. I get it. But in the interest of being honest, straight-forward and putting this behind us--You're right. I want it just as badly as you do.

I can remember your first WrestleMania, Bret. WrestleMania II. You're in the Battle Royal with Andre The Giant. And I'll never forget thinking that Andre is, great as an attraction as he we was, maybe the all-time greatest attraction--sooner or later his career was gonna come to the end and I'd be looking at the past. And I remember you, in that same battle royal, I knew, Bret, that you were the future. I knew it then. And following your career--I mean, you went from a tag team specialist to being the WWE Champion, Bret. Nobody handed it to you. I gave you opportunity. That's all I gave you. You've fought, clawed, scratched, kicked, bit your way all the way to the top.

And, Bret, it's not a catchphrase of some kind. You really did, you became the Excellence of Execution. You did. And one of the reasons, I know you will agree with this, one of the reasons that this whole Montreal thing was so personal between you and me, and you've said it yourself, that--I was like a father figure to you. And I felt that responsibility and that's one of the reasons why it hurt you so badly. A speaking of your, of a father, I'd like to bring up your dad. I want you to know, Stu Hart, I want to let you know that all his accomplishments and he's the reason why so many people 'broke into the business' and all of that--I'd like to personally nominate your dad, Stu Hart, into this year's WWE Hall Of Fame."

Hart: "I appreciate that. And I know that it would mean a lot to the Harts back home in Calgary and the fans all across Canada that you finally put my dad in the WWE Hall Of Fame. And I thank you for that."

McMahon: "Well, you--Bret, you're thanking me, quite frankly, I think that all of us here and certainly me, we'd like to thank you. I'd like to personally thank you for your, all your contributions to the WWE. I'd like to thank you for every thrilling moment that you gave the entire WWE Universe. I'd like to thank you, Bret. Thank you for you just being you out here tonight. The real Bret Hart. And lastly, I thought I'd never be saying this, but I'd like to thank you for being the best there is, I'd like to thank you for being the best there was and the best there ever will be."
